The idea for Yagua cigars was introduced to the Newman family by the General Manager of their Nicaraguan PENSA factory, Lazaro Lopez.  Mr. Lopez told the story of how his grandfather would take cured tobacco from his farm and roll a few personal cigars to smoke throughout the week.  Those roughly rolled cigars would be wrapped in yagua leaves that kind of acted like cigars molds.  After a few days he would pull the newly formed, yet still rough looking cigars out of the leaf to smoke.

The Yagua from J.C. Newman is made in this same fashion.  They use an under-fermented Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos for the blend.  After the cigars are bundled together they are aged for a full year to let the Broadleaf wrapper full ferment.  Each cigar is truly different, all are around a 6 x 52 Toro size.
